Unit 9 Reading

Summary:

On a starters guide to IOS design the author really went into great detail about every aspect of what you need to think about and do while designing for any IOS. This site really reminded me a lot about the book we read on web design. The author went into great detail about the difference between retina and pixel screens, from there he talked about the whole layout, like hierarchy, typography, were to get templates from. He knew it all from pre-production flow to testing in the end. This will be a great site to bookmark.

I really enjoyed the article on Mashable about the ten mistakes not to make while app designing. I feel like all of the suggestions are very handy and a good thing to keep in the back of your mind while designing for any IOS device. The author really hit home with how to make an app look clean and unique to be able to separate them from the rest of the junk out there. He talked about a lot of different things that I honestly wouldn’t have normally thought twice of until now.

App Definition Statement

App Definition Statement

Cole Kerby, Mefei

1. Things users will like:

- Calculator to determine daily calorie intake

- Healthy recipes

- Suggested alternate food items

- The record show what should eat for certain days

- Calendar to help document calories and meals for everyday

2. User audience:

- People who work out

- People who cook meals at home

- People who are on the go but still need nutrition advice

- People who want to become fit

- People who want to lead a healthier lifestyle

- People with money

- People who care about their well being

3. Definition:

- An app for people who are trying to be nutritionally healthy

4. Development:

- When designing this app we want it to seem streamlined and slim to give the feel of what the user is going for. We will probably use more saturated tones like bright reds and yellows because it is about fitness, health and diet. Those are just a few things we will be keeping in mind while designing.

Unit 8 Reading

Summary:

Chapter 10:

Chapter ten was on more usability testing, not so much on what a usability test is but what the jobs of a usability tester are. The first thing that comes along with testing people is that there is a job being a facilitator, which is the person that greets and tells the people getting tested what’s going on. The next job in usability testing is being the person who takes down data and pretty much watches the reactions of the people getting tested. Its goes into how important it is to treat these people and how to conclude your data. It talks about why and how you need to analyze the end results.

Chapter 11:

Chapter eleven was a good chapter that was about how to interact with your design team after you’ve gathered all of the data from your web testing. The author talks about what problems to tackle first, how to tackle them, and what to do with the major problems. I feel like this book has been a great read because it has kind of opened my eyes as the way I’m supposed to interact with a design team outside of school when working with the web.

Unit 7 reading

Summary:

This week for the in-class reading we had to go to a website and scroll down a page that was all about websites and the best ways to use and design them, this site was called What the Heck is Responsive Web Design. Although it was another refresher for me it was nice to be feed to latest and greatest in responsive web design out there. I like the fact that before I came to this school I was never really exposed to these cool sites that I venture upon today. The internet, for me, was just a tool to socialize and buy things. Now, I see it as more of a gateway into this new age that were peaking upon and it inspires me to keep designing and trying to see how far I can take myself, because everyone is always trying to find the new and great in things. I know that if I keep my head were it is and design with this responsiveness aspect in mind I can not only become a great designer, but it will be easier to make a name for myself with people knowing that I’m a designer who is thinking in the future and not so much in the past same generic way.

Smartphone app ideas

For my group we have came up with a couple ideas as of now. as far as i understand the app needs to have something to do with location finding. so we went off of that idea and tried to think of some places that people would like to have easily located on their phone or ipad. a couple of the ideas we have come up with are a food truck vendor locator to help locate good food in major cities, a trail finding app so you can find all of the good spots in the northwest, or even a fine restaurant locator with reviews so people can get exactly what they want to eat whenever they need.
